Another Kickstarter Project

I love Kickstarter. I love finding a project that I really want to support, and then watching it come closer and closer to meeting its goal, rooting for it to make it the whole time. I really don’t have any money, so I have to try and space my projects out so it’s not a financial strain, but I love helping fund these endeavors.

The last one I posted about, Butcher Shop at Sugar Mountain Farm has met and surpassed its goal, and has great plans for what to do with the extra.

My latest, and one closer to home is Paper Crane Farm needs a Market Van. These folks are right down the road, though I haven’t met them yet. They have a gorgeous organic CSA farm in Big Laurel—the pictures are beautiful! There are six days to go to meet their goal, and they’re at 85% funding.

Puppies

Joon had six puppies last night—five males and one female. They look just like a bunch of little Border Collies! Well, the larvae of Border Collies.

Kickstarter Project

If you’ve ever asked me a question about raising pigs, I probably directed you to check out Walter Jeffries’ blog Sugar Mountain Farm. He pasture-raises pigs in Vermont, and was my most valuable resource when we first got pigs. He has provided a wealth of information not only through his blog, but has also taken the time to respond to my detailed questions via email and blog comments.

Walter and his family are building an on-farm butcher shop to process their own pork. While I think it would’ve been a much better idea to build it down here in the North Carolina mountains—next door to, say, me—I suppose Vermont will just have to do. This project finally inspired me to open a Kickstarter account so that I could donate a little. Please check it out—every little bit helps,  and what great karma!

Bear Pen Farm

Please check out my friend Dave’s blog: Bear Pen Farm. He lives in Arkansas and, I suspect, has a LOT of interesting stories to tell!

Moonmeadow Farm Calendars

Yesterday I posted a couple of calendars in my CafePress shop. One is a nice oversized calendar with a different MMF character featured each month—you’ll see Marlene, Pearl, Maeby, Split, Joon, and others.

There is also a smaller one-page calendar, featuring a photo of our farmhouse kitchen:

This is a great way to do a little Christmas shopping and help support Moonmeadow Farm!

All-Purpose Cleaner: A Recipe

Here is a wonderful recipe for an all-purpose cleaning spray that smells great, and works really well. It is so popular in our house right now that ED deep-cleaned her bedroom just because she liked the fragrance of the cleaner so much! It’s scented with cinnamon and clove essential oils, which are also antiseptic.

Cinnamon and Clove Holiday Cleaner

Not only does this preparation clean, but the essential oils disinfect and provide a natural fragrance.

1/2 teaspoon each cinnamon and clove essential oils
1 teaspoon washing soda
2 teaspoons borax
1/2 teaspoon liquid soap or detergent
2 cups hot water

Combine the ingredients in a spray bottle. Shake to dissolve and blend the minerals. I like to spray this cleanser onto a surface , then leave it on for 15 minutes or so before I wipe it up with a rag, to give the essential oil’s antiseptic qualities time to work.

Makes 2 cups

Prep time: about 1 minute
Shelf Life: indefinite
Storage: Leave in the spray bottle, or store in a glass jar with a screw top.

Look Who Showed Up

Because we are now crazy dog hoarders, dogs just show up here now. This guy came a couple of nights ago—we’re posting flyers in the few random places we can think to post them, and he’s very visible from the road here, so he’s probably temporary.

In other dog news, I think we may have a home for Lola! I’ll know more this weekend.

Thanks!

We recently received a donation from a reader via Amazon, and it came at such an opportune time! Thank you!
