Finally—Rain!

We have been getting terribly dry the last few weeks, and the drier we get, the slower our spring runs, so watering the garden is challenging when it’s possible at all. But it started raining last night and rained hard for most of today—I haven’t gone out to check the buckets, but I’m sure we got at least a couple of inches!

Bernard has gone to the beach with extended family—grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. DH and I drove her down to Atlanta Friday so she could ride down to Florida with my sister, and we drove back up yesterday afternoon. We decided to make a little vacation of it, and we had a ball.  This was the longest time we’ve spent away from home and the girls in eighteen years!

We went down to The Dekalb Farmer’s Market Saturday morning, where we bought lots of wonderful food, including Dragon Fruit, Lychees and Guineps. Then we wandered around my old stomping grounds in Midtown and Little Five Points. It was good to be away from the farm, good to hang out together, and good to get home again!

Especially when we woke this morning to rain.

Dog Days

We’ve had a cooler spell here lately, with 50s at night—lovely! And lots of company, which has also been lovely. After the first set of cousins left, my sister and her two came for a couple of day visit. My sister shocked me with her usefulness in the garden and with chores, and it was fun to see the kids so worn out at the end of the day!

And now my niece is here for a week, or however long she wants to stay. Doesn’t a houseful of people feel like summer?
