This is our new buck. He’s a big handsome fellow, and I must say, uncool as it may be, we’re so looking forward to some spotted babies!

Finally! DH killed the two rams yesterday evening and I was out skinning and gutting until 10:00 last night. They were considerably bigger than I thought, and hanging them up turned out to be an enormous challenge, especially as I couldn’t find the pulley that I’d put somewhere safe a few weeks ago. Luckily a (vegetarian!) friend stopped by just in time to help us hoist the second one; I suppose I should find something besides a package of lamb chops with which to thank him!

And Sunday morning while out doing chores I discovered a little newborn ewe lamb happily following her ferocious mother around the pasture.

Friday we hauled Rosemary over to the folks with the bull, and today I got a message that she hasn’t shown any signs of heat so far. It’ll be interesting to see how this goes!

We’ve had a typical early March so far! Sunny and fairly warm yesterday, and snow today. Did y’all catch the eclipse last night? We went out for pizza in Weaverville and ended up sitting on the side of the road somewhere near the top of Lonesome Mountain watching the show. What a gorgeous evening.

So we still haven’t butchered the rams. DH brought home a pistol early this week, but I came down with a hateful little cold, and I just couldn’t imagine being all wet and mucky while not feeling good, I put it off. I’m no real farmer, am I.

Oh, and I have pictures I’ve been wanting to post, but can’t for some reason. I’ll keep trying!
